IN PARTNERSHIIP WITH SEPHARDI VOICES UK

This illustrated talk will explore the colourful and tragic history of the Jewish Community of Salonika, the second largest city of Greece, once called the ‘Mother of Israel'. Based on extensive fieldwork and interviews, Bea will present and interpret individual and communal memories from the glorious past in Spain to the traumatic experience of the Holocaust, which almost annihilated the entire Jewish community. Dr. Bea Lewkowicz is a social anthropologist and oral historian. She is the Director of Sephardi Voices UK. Her research focuses on oral history, migration, nationalism and ethnicity.
